Who we are
Andrea Spencer lives and works on the North Antrim Coast. Her studio is located in the grounds of a former farm house and is part of Benefield Spencer Glass, established with her husband and Glass Blower Scott Benefield. Together they maintain their individual studio practices, occasionally collaborating, designing and working together on commissions, production and gallery work.
Between them Benefield Spencer Glass facilities have a fully functioning Hotshop and flameworking set up, along with a variety of kilns and a modest cold working facility, operating mostly as a private studio.
Passionate about sharing what they have created, they open their doors to the public on occasions throughout the year. Hosting open studios days for events such as August Craft Month, they offer glassblowing and flame working demonstrations for visitors to experience the magic that glass has to offer.

one for you
Throughout the year Andrea offers classes, workshops and experiences for all types of people, from the curious creative and the adventurous traveller to the professional looking for a reboot or the student seeking to upskill. One to one experiences are also available and can be tailored to suit individual needs.
Where we are
Our glass studio is situated just off the beaten track. We are located in splendid rural isolation, surrounded by open green farm land and only a few miles inland of Ballintoy village, on the North Antrim Coast. A short distance, of just two miles away, is Whitepark Bay, a vast stretch of secluded beach which arcs between two rugged rocky headlands and is also a natural conservation area, rich in wild life and wild flowers. Within twenty minutes driving are a plethora of outlying sites, ancient ruins and a world of breath-taking natural beauty. I take daily walks within this landscape, usually at sun up or sun down, to nourish my soul and feed my practice. I bring the experience back into the studio and light my torch. An article in the Guardian described the Antrim Coast area as otherworldly, I couldn’t agree more; add light, fire, glass and creativity and expect to have a transformative experience.
Who are the experiences
suitable for?
Experiences in the Flameworking studio are suitable for all ages 16yrs upwards. They provide an opportunity for the Curious Creative, Adventurous Traveller or those wanting to share a meaningful activity together or mark a significant occasion. You do not need any previous experience of glassmaking.
What is the difference between a class and an experience?
A class is for those who want an intensive skill based focus and are maybe considering doing more flameworking in the future. An experience is for those want to try out glassmaking with a step by step approach and focus on making something achievable within a short time, creating a keepsake and a lasting memory.
