Human Nature

Human Nature continues a fascination with the connection between structures found in nature replicated in our human bodies. Inspired by a dried Hydrangea mop head and dried Lupin branch collected from my garden, I realised a connection between the plant specimens and the fragile, complex and complicated systems that support and underpin the human body. The Hydrangea mop head resembles aspects of the human brain, in shape and form. The delicate stems that support the flower heads branch off in pairs from a central axis, not unlike the structure of arteries and veins. The Lupin branch, with dried out seed pods, suspended upside down hints at a spinal cord. With this piece I aspire to illuminate humans’ mutuality with the earth and observe the edges where human nature and the natural world fuse.
